Head of Royalties & Copyright

At Universal Music Sweden we always strive to find new marketing models to better serve our artists and to further expand our presence in the entertainment industry. Our royalty team, consisting of 5 individuals, is integral to this mission.

Effective immediately, we are looking for an efficient, communicative, and analytical team player to join our Royalty department as our new Head of Royalty & Copyright at our office in Stockholm. In this position you report to the CFO Nordic Region and work closely with the Legal & Business affairs department and the Finance team.

About the Role

The Head of Royalty & Copyright will play a critical role in ensuring the accurate and timely distribution of royalties to artists and other rights holders. This position requires an understanding of copyright law and music licensing agreements. You have strong quantitative skills and experience working with large datasets. Experience and a strong interest for data analytics and process automation is critical.

Your main responsibilities:

Your role is pivotal in accelerating and driving a digital shift within our Royalty department, with a focus on identifying and executing automation initiatives to improve efficiency. You oversee all aspects of royalty and copyright administration, including:

  • Royalty Accounting:
    • Full ownership of the royalty accounting process from start to finish, including data entry, reconciliation, and payment processing and follow-up analyses (e.g., financial outcomes)
    • Analyze royalty statements and identify any discrepancies
    • Maintain robust royalty accounting systems and procedures
  • Copyright Management:
    • Monitor and enforce copyright ownership and usage rights
    • Register copyrights with relevant agencies (e.g. NCB)
  • Royalty and Copyright Audits:
    • Manage recurring royalty and copyright audits requested by artists and collecting societies

 You meet these professional requirements:

  • You have completed your bachelor’s degree, and ideally your master’s degree within Business, Law, Finance or a related field
  • You have at least three years of full-time work experience in a similar role
  • Proven experience managing and leading high-performing teams
  • Experience with big data analysis and reporting
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • You speak English and Swedish fluently
  • Experience from SAP FI-CO / SAP Business Objects / Microsoft A4O is a plus
